by New day injust noticed that one of the ads that keeps popping up on my page (but only when i am on this site) is for a company called ministry ideas which sells all sorts of folders etc.
for use in the ministry by witnesses.
i have looked up this site at times and am appalled at the crass commercialism of it, but ironic that it appears when browsing on this site!

No... I wasn't mind controlled
by Zoos inthou shalt not stay at a hotel that is not on the rooming list.
work prevented me from attending our assigned district (regional) convention so i arranged my schedule to attend in a different city/weekend.
i know that's not a problem, brothers and sisters do it all the time.

I have never stayed at the designated hotels. Some bros in the cong have asked me if I do, with a wink and a nod, as they have also worked out that it is often cheaper to do your own thing. Anyway. I think it cramps your style if you are staying at a hotel full of bros and sis, some of whom would look accusingly at you if they spotted you having, gasp, of all things, an alcoholic drink! -

Your body of elders - were they liberal, conservative or moderate?
by minimus inin my first kingdom hall, the elders were ultra conservative.
our presiding overseer used to be a zone overseer.
the second hall i was in was moderate.

In our hall the sisters bring a scarf to drape over their legs for a talk if the skirts rides above the knee when they sit down!

In a congregation near us one sister rebelled, this was years ago, and she insisted on wearing trousers regularly to meetings, especially when it was cold. Her hubby was an elder. The body of elders tried to change her mind but she refused to do that. She carried on wearing them but was always viewed thereafter as a bit odd. -

Virgins and the Bride?
by Doug Mason ini know that a parable must never be made to walk on all four legs, that many of its elements are there to act as "fillers".. nevertheless, i wonder if i have missed something with the watchtower's "explanation" of the parable of the ten virgins.
they state that the parable relates to their anointed class.
but the wts also says that the 144,000 are the "bride".. so are the "anointed" part of the wedding party that is waiting outside as well as being the "bride" waiting inside?.

Yes, but aren't the anointed also double-jobbing in the book of Revelation, as the 144,000 in Rev. 14 and as the 24 elders in Rev. 11, according toWt theology? So maybe that's their thing, you know? -

Ok, dhoh, I'll do the work for you. The point I am making is that many of the volunteers for the big construction projects are selling homes and possessions to work there. The article even boldly states that these ones are not worried about what will happen to them after their job is finished even though they will then have to find somewhere to live, work... Some are working as "commuter Bethelites" so I suppose they have the cachet of being a Bethelite for a while, but the article is careful to point out that they pay for their own accommodation and living expenses and commute a day or more each week to work on the new HQ. All this has tempted bros and sis who are too old to work permanently in Bethel to apply as the age limit was extended for these projects. Some no doubt will cope well afterwards as they have only rented out their house but the others who sold all? -

Serena Williams
by New day ini am a big tennis fan and today i watched serena williams win the australian open, one of the four tournaments which make up the pinnacle of achievement in the tennis world, the grand slam.
in her victory speech the first thing she said was that she thanked her god jehovah for the victory.
now i know that rumours have circulated for a long time as to whether she is a baptised witness or not, but she is definitely associated with witnesses .

I am a big tennis fan and today I watched Serena Williams win the Australian Open, one of the four tournaments which make up the pinnacle of achievement in the tennis world, the Grand Slam. In her victory speech the first thing she said was that she thanked her god Jehovah for the victory. Now I know that rumours have circulated for a long time as to whether she is a baptised Witness or not, but she is definitely associated with Witnesses . She said that she had prayed to win and gave the impression that Jehovah had helped her to do it. Now I am still a Witness and this kind of talk makes me mad. The Sovereign of the universe is spending his time making sure a tennis player wins a tournament? Come on! This reminds me of another tennis tournament many years ago, when a young tennis player called Michael Chang won, I think it was the US Open against the Sewdish player Stefan Edberg. Michael Chang was a born-again Christian, and many people of this persuasion routinely ascribe any and all positive results, especially sporting ones to God's blessing. Michael Chang thanked the Lord Jesus Christ for his victory while Stefan Edberg rolled his eyes on the sidelines. All of this is so crazy. I can almost get the idea that if we excel in an area that this means we might claim this reflects well on the god we worship, but to claim or infer that this is a suitable matter for prayer is, in my view, way down the list behind poverty, starvation, war...

received revealing "witness" in parking lot
by Magnum ina few weeks ago i was working out of my home state and was in a grocery store parking lot when i received my first jw witness since leaving jwdom.
a youngish-looking lady was sitting in an suv parked next to my car and i was about to get in my car to leave.
she opened the door and asked whether she could give me something to read (had a tract in her hand)..

I became a Witness in 1980 and at that time we were supposed to and be able to defend what we believed, like no trinity, no immortal soul etc, now it is completely non-doctrinal. I became a Witness for doctrinal reasons and what has almost shattered my faith is not the other serious issues, though of course they are important, like power hungry elders and unjust disfellowshippings (close relative wrongly df and eventually reinstated), but what has shaken me to the core is the abysmal "generation" teaching with zero scriptural support, and the exhortation to blindly follow the slave, again with no backup. -

Why are JW talks & publications never uplifting?
by thedepressedsoul ini was sitting at the meeting the other night and for the first time it hit, jw talks or magazines are never uplifting!
i rarely, if ever hear a talk or read a magazines and have it give nothing but praise to jehovahs servants or just praise jehovah and jesus throughout it.
they never just a read through the bible or just a bible story explained or told.

My wife and I were just discussing the midweek meeting and how boring the book study was. She said that she couldn't understand why we couldn't study something refreshing and positive!
